What's the point of comparing that cross to the one in Detlev's book?

I think it is hard to see the minute details of some of these crosses with photos that lack detail. Here is a juncker cross and I cannot make out the details of the beading to be able to compare it to the Detlev cross. So I think if we make comparisons, it is nice to see highly detailed photos. Sometimes they are not available.

I brought this up earlier, but this quote is what really bothers me the most about the Detlev cross. This is from Gordon Williamson's book p 468...


"In most recent times, a very high quality copy of the Knight's Cross has begun to appear with alarming regularity. This type has fooled experienced collectors and dealers alike. There is little actually "wrong" with this copy, which would have been accepted almost without question but for a degree of foolishness on the part of the manufacturers. This copy would, had it been sold with a simple "800" silever content stamp, correctly positioned, almost certainly passed muster.....This reproduction features a distinctive "#" effect similar to that found on the frames of genuine Juncker pieces on the corners adjacent to the swastika. On the copies, however, this feature is prevalent on the outer corners of the ribbed inner rim at the corners of each arm."

It sounds like he is describing the Detlev cross pretty well. As noted above, he calls this a reproduction, not a variant. Has anyone else been disturbed by this passage?

That cross he's referring to is definitely not the Detlev RK. And Detlev would be well aware of that fake and would never include it in his book.

It seems that between Detlev's '99 production of his guide and Gordon's '02 publication neither of them chose to mention this 'type' of cross....so it must be a very recent discovery.

Actually, in the '99 guide there isn't even a mention of an 'unknown'!
