I reckon, based on what George has said, it is either a WW2 restrike of the original pattern 1914 EK11, or a Shinkel '39er EKII..........

Hi Jim & Harry,
Well I've been following this one and I've been looking off line as well as on.
I can't say I'm familiar with this exact type of case, to be truthful I'm more dubious of it than convinced that it's original.......in this instance I'd like to see it properly in my hands.
If this is indeed early (and before I go on, there are exceptions to every 'thought' rule and I'm no expert this is just my novice opinion)
I'll have to take more time to compare the Ldo logo with known originals and fakes (I'm not overly keen on it, I can't put my finger on it yet but I'm just not convinced). This Ldo logo is the style I deem as earlier than the block Ldo logo as George states this wouldn't be late 1930's but if genuine earlyish era 42-43.
For a box of this type, the lid liner and inner hinge covering looks like a linen effect to me, the weave looks a tad broad for what I'd assume or expect. Also I'd prefer to see an outline recess than this recess typified in the cardboard boxes. This is just an observation but I'd expect rayon or silk to be used on an out and out earlier box.....I could be wrong and I probably am !
The outer covering and catch...I'm unsure of at this moment in time.
If this was to be for a Schinkelform cross I'd also expect the recess compartment to be 25mm or so to take the narrow ribbon.
I really couldn't say either way on it......but I'm more dubious than for it.

Marcus, thanks for you input. Excellent point on the ribbon recess. The ribbon recess is in fact too narrow to accomodate the ribbons of both my 1939 and 1914 EKIIs, the recess measures just 27.5mm. The Ldo logo on the lid is 'inlaid' into the ersatz leather. The white lining on the inner lid is 'silky' in feel and is delicate.Last edited by Harry; 12-05-2004, 04:01 PM.
