I reckon, based on what George has said, it is either a WW2 restrike of the original pattern 1914 EK11, or a Shinkel '39er EKII..........

No Schinkel, yet, Jim, only a 1914 issue EKII, which fits perfectly. But the construction of the case and of course the Ldo logo on the lid is indicative of 3rd Reich era.......

          Hi Jim & Harry,

Well I've been following this one and I've been looking off line as well as on.

I can't say I'm familiar with this exact type of case, to be truthful I'm more dubious of it than convinced that it's original.......in this instance I'd like to see it properly in my hands.

If this is indeed early (and before I go on, there are exceptions to every 'thought' rule and I'm no expert this is just my novice opinion)

I'll have to take more time to compare the Ldo logo with known originals and fakes (I'm not overly keen on it, I can't put my finger on it yet but I'm just not convinced). This Ldo logo is the style I deem as earlier than the block Ldo logo as George states this wouldn't be late 1930's but if genuine earlyish era 42-43.

For a box of this type, the lid liner and inner hinge covering looks like a linen effect to me, the weave looks a tad broad for what I'd assume or expect. Also I'd prefer to see an outline recess than this recess typified in the cardboard boxes. This is just an observation but I'd expect rayon or silk to be used on an out and out earlier box.....I could be wrong and I probably am !

The outer covering and catch...I'm unsure of at this moment in time.

If this was to be for a Schinkelform cross I'd also expect the recess compartment to be 25mm or so to take the narrow ribbon.

I really couldn't say either way on it......but I'm more dubious than for it.

Marcus, thanks for you input. Excellent point on the ribbon recess. The ribbon recess is in fact too narrow to accomodate the ribbons of both my 1939 and 1914 EKIIs, the recess measures just 27.5mm. The Ldo logo on the lid is 'inlaid' into the ersatz leather. The white lining on the inner lid is 'silky' in feel and is delicate.

I thought about getting out an old Coupland's elevator to get the base out, but all I had to do is tap it out! This is what it revealed..........

                    Harry,

Any chance of a close up of the base of the box with the interior out?

Here you go Allan, a closer view of the logo........the base is covered in a layer of yellowed animal glue.

I just thought I would add in a note about the weight of this case, to give you an idea of the quality. It weighs in at a massive 81.5g, a good 5g heavier than my Juncker RK case!

What on earth ! Well I've never quite seen the likes. This is one I'd really like to look at in hand. Very interesting and strange.

Here's a small pic of a fake I was pondering over, I don't know if any photo shop experts can enlarge it, when I tried it just went all distorted.

Note on this fake the broad chamfered lid edges, they come like yours and with the narrow material strips holding in the ribbon.

Marcus, do you have a pic of the interior of these fake cases?
