Need help with an L15 MM EK2

    Gentlemen,
I just received a couple of EK2s in trade and I would like to get an opinion on the first one, the second will be in an additional post.
I usually have no problems with the items I receive from this dealer but I'm a little concerned about this particular EK2.

First of all it is a typical three piece construction with a magnetic core. It has a small unsoldered ribbon ring with an L15 makers mark (not L/15) and what appears to be a Souval "dipping three" core. Unfortunately I couldn't get good pictures of the L15, even with the macro feature on it was just too small. The frame doesn't match other Souvals I've compared it to and looks to be more of an Orth style. The attachment ring is soldered on the front but not on the back, typical of a Souval EK2.

From the things I've read concerning the L15 mark and combination of core and frame it isn't good and appears to be a post war made Souval but I would still very much like the experts to review it. Please let me know if additional pictures are needed.

If it does turn out to be a post war Souval should I return it or add it to my humble EK collection as an oddity? Also what value do these pieces have?

    Thanks - in advance.

Alright, my camera officially sucks! I've been playing with it for the last hour and cannot get it to focus on the L15. The macro feature is on but it will not focus on just the ring, it's either to close or to far away and I can't find the happy medium.

You can kind of see the L15 on the second picture, until my camera starts cooperating that will be best there is.

Postwar fake, but a very interesting one that really puts the last nail in the L15 EK1's coffin in my opinion.
                Best regards,

My understanding of that Ekii is little different. If I'm not mistaken Ekii itself looks to be '27' and ring is replaced from Ost

That's a very interesting possibility. I'll go and check myself, but (the obvious question), how do the diameters compare on Ost and EK rings and does this one match the standard Ost ring? It certainly looks like it could be one. The mm is a perfect match to Plaut's example.

Ost ring about 9mm and EKII about 12-13mm. ED: the ring on this EKII looks to be the larger size. SPECTRE9MM what is it's diameter?

Tony I think you took inside diameter - That Ost ring is 12mm and random Ekii ring 15mm. The smallest ring I found in my collection is 10mm on P&L EKii

So the ribbon ring is not off an Ost medal then ???
