MY FIRST IMPRESSION OH MY GOD! Is it a ... EK1?!
What would be your first impression, if you holding such a EK1 in your hand?

Can you show some of your famous side-pics please?
        Best regards,

          Interesting :
Looks like an early cross that design wise got rejected - did not make the cut .
A copper frame that was Ni-plated and coated . I have seen this construction type used by 2 other makers on early examples . The pin has the correct finishing on it .
The scratched date to me appears done post war . Germans do not make 1's like that !

Should be 3 piece as the core looks like a different material ?

After taking another look, and another one: I like it.
I think I have seen pictures of something similar before, but I don't really recall it well.
                  Will do some digging later....

For now : it's an odd original, most likely foreign made.
It looks like they worked from an early meybauer.
                  Maybe Japanese??

I say Japanese, and I did see a Japanese EK some months ago from a private family collection that the grandfather was given a Japanese EK1, the Japanese EK1 mimicked a Meybauer exactly as this one does.

These were my first two thoughts also: I've seen it before, and maybe it's a Japanese one.

This is the page from Gordon Williamson's book "The Iron Cross of 1939" (2002). Frank Thater reports in his book "Das Eiserne Kreuz 1. Klasse von 1939" (showing the same cross) that 25 were awarded to the survivors of the auxiliary cruiser "Michel", all of them made of silver.
Reportetly another type exists, also in silver, as pictured in the book "The Iron Cross 1. Class" (2010).
