I have a general question on RKs and their accompanying ribbon loops. Would it be considered sacrilege to change a loop on an RK for a loop that is original, of the same pattern/maunfacturer, but just in nicer condition? What are the chances of this having been done at some stage during the last 60 years before they reach our collections? Shouldn't the amount of wear on a cross match that shown on the ribbon loop? All comments welcome!

Harry I have seen S&L loops on Juncker crosses and lots of other combinations....I would 'feel' better with the appropiate loop on a particular cross!
Over a 60 year period there's going to be some mixing and matching even if not purposely done.
As long as it doesn't contradict any documentation belonging to the cross who really is to know and the cross 'benefits' by being made whole again!!Regards,
Dave

Dave,
I completely agree that the loop should be of the same maker as the cross. Trouble is, most collectors, myself included, would not know the characteristic features of different maker loops. I am sure there are lots of collections in existance with a good RK as its centre-piece but with an inappropriate loop attached, unknown to the owner. I have not found a decent thread on loops and I think they need to be discussed more. Perhaps we could have some pics of 'classic' examples of the more common makers?
