The real bad (and maybe even fraudulent) thing here is not that Mr. Cross thinks that it is a "Dupla" and that it might be worth the money he is asking for. It is also not too bad that he tells a nice story of the origin of the piece - we have far better story tellers here in the USA with far more romantic touches!

The bad thing is that he writes that his piece is the same type as pictured in Forman's book. The intend is obviously to give this incredible bad piece a certain legitimacy. Even somebody who has no idea about anything Third Reich can see that the two pieces have nothing in common at all. So, either Mr. Cross is blind or has an incredible impaired perception (in which case he should not try to sell militaria). Or he is thinking that his customers are stupid .....

At any rate, IMHO this is an attempt to sell something where he clearly knows that it is not what he says it is. There are other words for this procedure ...

I clearly advise to stay away from websites which employ such a selling practice.

Werner Molders hey, so The Fat Man was right when he complained about poor quality of the materials used in such awards. This would be a joke if someone wasn't going to buy them.

The 'W' mark is in fact a well known maker. it's Walmart.

I'm surprised you guys didn't pick up on that.

It's ghastly - I would value it at $100 - if the small chip diamonds are real - which I doubt

Arm yourself with diamond knowledge and diamond tester , if necessary.

In my opinion there's nothing wrong with produce and sell reprodictions/copys, as long as you sell it as such also.

Many collectors use a reproduction as a filler, if they can't afford or maybe find a original example of a medal/badge.
I my self have a cased reproduction RK with Oaks , as I can't afford the Real deal. The seller sold the set as a reproduction, so no harm done.

When it goes wrong, is when people are knowingly selling reprodictions as real, in my humble opinion.

He´s selling them clearly as reproductions so IMO nothing wrong.

I admire the craftmanship as his pieces are looking really good. You can spot them as copies but well done.

                  So what´s the problem ?

I own a set of their Diamonds. They are well made and since there is NO way in hell I could ever afford an original set, they fit well in my collection. When I bought them in 2008, they were only asking $75.00 and I'm happy ! Tom

Forgot to mention, there is a seller on ebay from Bonn Germany selling a set like mine and asking $5,084.25 plus $69.79 shipping. He says "Best Offer" so I contacted him and offered $76.00 and free shipping. Tom

Fully agree! I hate fakes, BUT in this (and similar) case I think it´s OK, as the producer/seller clearly declares his products as repros!
