Off topic but Barry from eMedals is a very honourable and honest dealer. Does he get it right every time? No, of course not. No one does. But he stands behind every item he sells and will refund any purchase if it is deemed to be anything less than 100%.

By that standard alone he is better than many of the members who sell on our own estand.

Well, really? But conversely, nothing on the eStand would survive a barrage of negatives and still be for sale in the original column. So permit me please to totally disagree with you in describing "ours".

        No need for sarcasm.

I was making a point about his integrity if you need to return an item. I have personally experienced it with an item that was later deemed to be 50/50 and he took it back without a single question. I have not seen that same degree of integrity from all the sellers on the estand.

Perhaps it is just you have had better luck than others?

Have you considered that Barry may not yet be aware the item is not genuine? You seemed to have jumped to the conclusion he is aware the item is not original and has decided to sell it anyway.

Since you seem to be such a helpful chap pointing out flaws in both items and the character of others you should contact him and let him know.

        Matt

I totally agree. I've had nothing but very good service from e-medals over the years and have bought many items from them.

However, I'm surprised to see that they still have for sale a fake SC Next of Kin. Here is my thread from June.

It wasn't sarcasm Matt. It was a very clear statement.

                  Hi Andrew

While I'm not defending eMedals (or any other dealer), the question I would ask is "did anyone contact Barry and point the thread out to him"?

As a general comment (not directed in any way at you Andrew or Brian) I have a degree of sympathy for [honest] dealers. They have to deal in a very wide range of items from British, to German, from Imperial to Third Reich and much more. No one can be expected to be an expert in all of these areas. Even 'specialised' collectors on this forum make mistakes quite regularly; you only have to look at how many times each day a member calls an original a fake, and a fake an original to see that.

The other factor that must make it hard for dealers is judging the veracity of an opinion that an item is not original. People make mistakes even when trying (with the best of intentions) to point out an item is not original and it would be extremely difficult to correctly identify the motives of a person who made the statement. Collectors can be just as dishonest as some dealers and try to talk prices down etc. (again this is not directed at you Andrew or anyone else here).

What I am trying to get across is that here we have a dealer with a very good reputation, that has displayed countless times that he will stand behind his items, but people are jumping to conclusions or making assumptions about his integrity. Where we have situations that are out of character or inconsistent with his reputation and behaviour we should perhaps give him the benefit of the doubt and at least the opportunity to respond/rectify things before we go 'all in'.

                  Matt

I don't think anyone is questioning his honesty or integrity. I do however question his ability to know good from bad. Doesn't he have an Osang pilot observer badge on there? Maybe on that one he is saying Osang is his belief rather than FLL?

:A Cased Combined Pilot's/Observers Badge - In gilded tombac, unworn, unmarked yet of typical G.H.OSANG, Dresden, Manufacture, and in near mint condition. Accompanied with the extremely fine conditioned original case of issue that reads "Luftwaffe Flugzeugfuhrer- u. Beobachter- Abzeichen"

                      Hi Matt,

I have not contacted Barry regarding this cross (NOK) for the same reason you stated above. It's just my opinion (and a few others) that the cross is bad. Am I an expert in Spanish Crosses? Far from it. For all I know Barry may think the cross is good and that's fine with me. I have however alerted Barry on one occasion of a fake EK2 and he removed it straight away. So why not this time? Like I said, It's just my opinion and I don't want to come across as being someone who just picks out items I think are bad. He is a member here and I hope he gets to read this thread.

I also know he will take it back with no questions if a buyer is not happy with it. I know this first hand because I bought a czech medal with prag bar and the bar turned out to be fake. He offered to take it back immediately but I decided to keep it for reference.

Point being, that he is one of the good guys and I have no problem buying anything from him. You just need to do your homework before you buy from anyone.

Estand has the benefit of hundreds of members looking through items everyday and if an items is questionable it's discussed. A dealer like e-medals which has hundreds of items just can't do that and so some bad items get through. I'm not defending e-medals, I'm just saying it how I see it.

All I can do is alert my fellow members to what I think is questionable and why and hopefully prevent someone buying a bad item from a dealer who's return policy is not so easy.

                      Regards,
                      AB.

I do not want to judge anyone but can only state that I have been dealing with Barry Turk ( eMedals) for years and he will always take back an item that is questionable . In this very complex field where everyone has an opinion on everything, Barry is a very reasonable dealer

the cross is now marked sold via emedals.ca

and here I thought somebody told him the cross had some concern?
