iron Cross 1st Class--Karl Gschiermeister, Wien

Any opinions on this Iron Cross...Pin is maker stamped 50 for Karl Gschiermeister, Wien ... It is magnetic but almost appears to be one piece....There are die/file markings on the edges....catch, hinge and pin all seem to be correct....

              Hi

That list is an extensive list of LDO authorised makers for various awards. Only a very small subset of those makers made EKIs and EKIIs.

I am happy to stand corrected, but the maker '50' was not a maker of EKIs or EKIIs.

What you have there is a spurious mark likely added to give the cross more 'legitimacy'. It is not uncommon for fakers or even other dealers/collectors to add these makes to increase the value of a cross or fool the next collector that buys it.

              Sorry for the bad news.

              Matt

The only genuine 50 is an L/50 and the mark looks like this for the most part. There are stamps on the pin if it is a PB that are slightly differnt but I don't have one of those

                  ....edit....
There are also websites that tell us the earth is flat & man never landed on the moon.

That's why we have to be very careful of the internet... This cross is just plain no good.

No bad feelings intended - just an example.

                  all the best,
                  Hank

                    ...
You will not manage to make this cross real here @ WAF.
50 is not a maker for EK1. I'm sure about this fact.
There are too much facts that 50 was not an EK1 maker.
Minimum it was a KVK1 maker w/o Sword maker and your pinsetup does not match to the known KVK1 even of all official EK1!
Sorry, but I wish you better luck next time.

You will not find any EK1 marked "50" in my database www.ek1-dna.de
or a pinform like your EK1
                    http://www.ek1-dna.de/position-of-pin-swelling.html

But you will find an "[50]" marked KVK1, not marked "50" and not identical pinshape
                    http://www.kvk1-dna.de/-50--karl-gsc...ter,-wien-.php

BTW, if scroll down on the first page of the www.ek1-dna.de database you will find a good maker mark list of EK1!
Minimum better than your shown EK1 Maker Mark List
