To identify the officer will be very easy - you have his birthdate.
The shiny dog tag is his Bundeswehr dog tag and shows his personal ID number - the first numbers are his birthdate
250204 = 25 February 1904
the letter A is the first letter of his last name
the remaining numbers are his personal number of the Bundeswehr.
The numbers today are still constructed the same way.
Very nice Eastern Front Officer lot.
The medals might be sent to the USA to someone named Lewis. On the box it says. Medals to keep - For Lewis.

Frank, thanks a ton for that tidbit of info! Where would the officer database be at? Is it accessible through the web?
Coincidentally, the only tunic I own, or have EVER owned, has its original IR 122 shoulderboards. Too wierd! Perhaps the obergefreiter tunic that I own was one of this officer's men!
