    How many Deschler EKII cores?

    HI,

    I just received this unmarked salty Deschler EKII. Comparing it to a marked Deschler EKII from the 'Deschler horde' I would say, IMO, that the cores of the two crosses are not made by the same die. What is your opinion, please?

    First I'll post some photos of my newly received Deschler, then a side-by-side photo comparison of the unmarked and marked Deschler EKII cores for your evaluation. To make matters more complex I have one more Deschler EKII to add to this thread when it arrives in a week or two. And, feel free to add any Deschler core to the mix, whether it's an EKI or EKII. This thread ought to be interesting. I believe there are a few different standard Deschler cores. 'Standard' meaning anything other than a round 3 core.

          I've another example coming in the mail soon, which I'll post when it arrives. From the sales photo it appears to have even yet another core.

              Yes, it does look like it came from another die. The dates are significantly different. The '3' in 1813 really stands out at first glance. When mine comes in, which may be today or tomorrow, I'll post a montage with all four front and reverse dates.

              I notice on your cross the many flaws in the frame's beading. This might place the cross as a late war example, perhaps.

                naturally yes, 2 different cores.
                for a fast id you need just to see the number 3 in 1813, the early? core has the cutted head on the right (as many W&Ls).

                  I don't think so, as the iron was imposed as the one material for EKs in 1942 (or 1943 I don't remember exactly) personally I place this one as an early one or as postwar.

                  EDIT : from interesting info I read in WA, starting from July 1942 any material out of iron must not be used anymore.

                      And, here is a montage of varying dates. #3 is Daniel's nice variant. #4 is the new addition, and it may or may not be from the same die as #2. What do you think? The first '1' in 1813 in #4 looks different than the first '1' in 1813 in #2. But then, it may just be die wear/breakdown.

                          in my opinion core #2 and # 4 come from the same die. I think dates look different because are not fine on the # 2.
