Can you explain the evidence for this? As far as I know, only one example has been found in a Schmidthäußler carton.

It may be correct but usually we like more evidence before being so certain. Has more evidence been discovered?

Any suggestions on dealing with the tarnish that is forming on it ?

      Nice EK I Spange Pat!
As others have said leave it alone. This is patina/age and its the way they should look when the "newsilber" paint/finish is worn off. Here is mine with similar patina on front and the finish almost intact on the back. Still looking for a nice vaulted EK I 1914 with the same dark patina to make a set

      Regards

        Both outstanding examples...

This one had been kept in solitary isolation for years...

            Trevor,

I used to own three by this maker. Of them two were absolutely mint. Gordon Williamson told me that in all of the years of his collecting he had never seen a mint example, not once until he had seen mine....

A very nice example with great patina. So tempting to clean it up isn't it, but the front in particular comes to life because of the tarnishing.

I know the evidence is poor but it is solid. I was there together with MB on the auction to see the group for the first time. The box had never left this cardboard box and the spange never left that box. More evidence is always welcome OF COURSE, but for me it's safe to say these pieces were made by Schmidhäußler for 99,9%.
                Kind regards,
                Giel
