There was I time I used to think that that was the way EKII's were worn, around the neck. I didn't know that what I saw was a Knight's Cross, I didn't even know that Knight's Crosses existed

I knew a vet years ago who had one (would not sell it), as it was given to him by a Luft Pilot at the end of the war. The small ring on top of the cross was turned sideways and resoldered and the large ring (loop) was bent flat and reshaped like a RK loop. It had two EK II ribbons sewn together to go around the neck. Very cool and unique item, but who knows what ever happened to it.
Uboat crews made up awards until they got home to port, POW's made awards in camp, so why not field units as well. Afterall, you could not go down and buy one while in the middle of Russia.

Pilot Wearing The Converted Iron Cross 2nd Class
Gentlemen,
I had to yet see a picture of a Luftwaffe pilot wearing the Knight's Cross that was converted from the EKII. There were plenty of recommandations for the Knight's Cross to Luftwaffe flying personnal near the end of WWII in April of 1945. Unofficially they were holders of that high neck decoration. Perhaps a name and a picture of one such person wearing a converted EKII that was turned into a Knight's Cross.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

The Names of the Holders!
Gentlemen,
The first two pictures in posts 21 and 22 I know. His name is Otto Ernst Remer. The Waffen-SS officer with a beard in post #22 is Max Seela. Do you guys know the names of the other RK holders in those photos that were posted in this topic?
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Here you have all the soldiers I have found with second class in the neck, for me the studio photos are the more important, people said this practice was only in the field, when I have found the cross in the waffenrock,I can to say this practice was correct ,while the soldier was waiting the Knight cross,in study photo or parade uniform, you can see here , three studio photos, the most important ,the waffenrock.
Diferent uniforms same cross.
Same uniform ,diferent cross,in the left the knight cross.Last edited by dornier; 04-01-2015, 10:22 AM.
