--Stijn, the marking under the cushion is 2597 D&B. The marking on the cardboard case bottom is 2420 D&B with initials in pencil.
--I can include bigger pictures of these if you want, I did a compilation to save space here. The other pictures are self-explanatory and are included for the forum's perusal...

      thanks for showing us ....

      Hello Bill,

Thanks for give a better look in the inside of the case +> regarding the numbers, etc ... + on the makers mark on your outer cardboard ( there is no need to post bigger pictures )

IMHO i agree 100 % with you and i see this particular one as 100 % period and should have no problem in adding it towards the collection , even with spelling mistake, etc ... ( it seems that mistakes where possible even then => but lets see the mistake theory from another point of vieuw , here is my theorie =>

Would the Germans ( the producers ) throw these cardboard cases away even if they spotted the mistake on time ? ( lets say the carboard boxes have been delivered towards the medal producing company +> here : FRiedrich Orth ) , it is very hard for me to believe that in a wartime period with shortage on every kind of materials, etc ... these things would be thrown away just like that , that would be very big waste !!!!! , and would it not be normal to use this batch up ( and the lot was used => print a new one afterwards with correct spelling )+ there is another mistake known in the iron cross series : see the carboard bowes with the 1940 designation instead of the 1939 !!! , by the way these carboard cartons where not made to survive +> after it has done its purpose and kept the award + case in good condition it was very often removed ( simply by ripping it into pieces ) before handing out the award or was thrown into the bin shortly afterwards .

Any toughts on this => it is just a theory but one seeing from a economical point of view .

        Dear Bill,

        I agree, mistakes are possible.

Just have to clarify again one more time, maybe I wasn´t clear enough in my last response:

        And I quote you here:
"For Fuhrer and Fatherland", published in 1976, contains a picture of this spelling error on an envelope for the KVK 2 without swords.

Again, for WITHOUT swords, "ohne Schwerter" (without N) is CORRECT! So the package shown in For Führer and Fatherland does NOT contain a spelling mistake and cannot be quoted here to give the "misspelling on originals" theory credibility.

Once again the correct spellings, one with an "N" the other without. It is tricky!

        MIT SCHWERTERN

        OHNE SCHWERTER

        Cheers, Frank H.
        Cheers, Frank
