    231 ??? Isn't this one of the fakes along with 333 & 666 etc

I don't know, I can't remember wait for the more experienced guys.

What I will say about the packet is this, there is some speculation with some collectors to them being pre 1945.

They are sold on the main dealers sites as originals.....but I doubt these more than the hansen-hausen packets. Who knows......I don't ! Just gut feeling.

The fold is on the left hand side and they are always unmarked, I've heard stories of them being found in a stock pile etc but on this packet you have to decide for yourself if you're happy with it or not.

I have two and I'm dubious of them, and they don't go in my collection as such. I've seen hundreds of them for sale in Germany and the UK all mint or faded to a yellow colour, I saw some this weekend yet again on a Berlin flea market.

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

From what I can see in the photos, the cross looks convincing. But if the number on the ring is '231', then it must be a fake because the number is way too high, and did not exist on originals. The issue packet also looks convincing, but I would want to see the maker markings on the reverse. If there is no maker marking on the reverse as Marcus believes, then I would tend to agree with his opinion. I have also seen dealers having stacks of these envelopes on their tables. All the same, and all looking too new.Best regards! Tom

Did the photos just disappear? Or is it my computer?

All I see is little boxes with red Xes in them.

Now I get the first picture. No #2 pic. yet.

                #231 Possible, I guess

I wouldn't mix it in with the rest of my boys though.

                  Ken, How is #231 possible?
Why not add the #333 on that possible list too?

Your right of cource. #231 is a stretch of the imagination.
I was just thinking of some poor dumb slob in a back alley, making
nockoffs to make a few extra marks. But then how would he get
that number unless he just made it up.

Most likely this is another copy from the 333 & 666 gang.
It would be interesting to compare all three of these to see if
                    they match.

Interesting proposal. It would be interesting to see if it is the same faker. Perhaps we could link them to others and come up with a family of fakes.

Any reason to think that someone just stamped a number on the ring thinking that may make it more valuable. Seems to happen quite a bit on other badges and such

Can you slot a piece of paper into the space between frame and iron core?

                            As I know, #231 is not a WW2 award

                              .
