    I've just read on another forum that there is supposedly a photo of this Spange in wear on p. 68 of Yerger, Mark C., German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police, Vol 5.

    Can anyone supply a scan of this page and photo?

    It would be nice to confirm this type if it's possible to do so.

        I know the old school of thought was based around symmetry but in light of a few examples that don't meet "perfection" status and have now been deemed original, I think we have to file these under "possible" and not immediately condemn them.
        I say this as I am now looking for my first pattern Maybauer that was called Fake a few years ago because of it's disproportionate/uneven shape.
        The unknown maker was also assumed a fake and some of the hand finished L/57 models to name a few..

        For all we know the type that Jim started the thread with could have been a hand made prototype junker!! Imagine the stampede that would cause

                  I wish it was clearer, it does look similar.
                  But you could also argue his SP1 looks like a post war souval too
                  Remember all the RK 'rounders' that kept showing up on period pics also?!
                  very good pic though
                  when I get some time, I'll superimpose the two ontop and see if that gives any more clues

                      In my opinion that is the same Spange. No other Spange has those same weird dimensions. For me, this photo (if not retouched or staged) confirms this Spange as a period piece.

                          I quite agree - the 'truncated/squared off' wings are pretty unique to this spange and IMO are perfectly replicated in that photo. Even without the benefit of any clear obverse detail at all, I'd be surprised if another spange had quite the same silhouette as this one...

                            The spange being worn in the photo has a date box that seems wider than the ribbon, the thread starter also has a long date box that appears wider.

                            As Jon as stated, unless this is a photgraphic forgery, it's a pretty good match.

                                I'm still not convinced, I feel that the photo could be of any spange, the shading and lighting playing tricks, distorting the shape
                                I'm open minded though, I'd love these to be real
                                and don't forget this case...
