Well, they can't be early war if they're stamped with a "P" number (a late war feature). I guess that they were just made less securely, for whatever reason -- maybe just the way a particular manufacturer assembled them. Maybe the looseness wasn't noticed, or nobody cared if it was.
Are there loose-cored Imperial EKs? (I'll go check mine....)George

Being instructed to use them doesnt mean the regulation wasnt in place already.
The regulation was not rigidly enforced at its conception. It may of taken till 44,for the manufacturers to be "corrected"in their apllication of the regulation and it was then implemented more rigidly.
According to robin lumsdens book"medals and decorations of hitlers germany" P registration numbers and L/ numbers were required to be stamped on all state decorations from march 1941.The "lieferant" or L numbers were in use before the war. Some early pre war nazi badges had "L/"numbers.
For example the russian front medal was instituted 26 may 1942,and was produced for issue not long after.
There are many examples of this medal issued before the end of 1942.The majority of early russian front medals have"P"registration numbers stamped on their suspension rings.Last edited by keifer kahn; 05-31-2004, 11:38 AM.
