    EK1 spange

I have posted this one before and, as I recall, no ID of it was made. Not that the story matters, but I picked it up from a vet along with several other things around 1965.

I thought I would try it again to see if there was any chance of any maker ID at this time. I do not want to sell or trade it.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Here are a couple of other shots of it. All the shots are ones I took some time ago.

Don't know if any of them will help.

If I recall well, this was identified as a "possible" L/53.
I think Jon has one of these as well (?)

      best regards,
      Ben

Thanks......I guess that must have been one of those "little" things that my doctor said I lost from my memory as a result of the slight brain damage from my stroke. By the way was L53 Hymmen & Co. ?

I kept the pics from your original thread for years trying to figure this one out
since then, we've found a few other examples
I always called this a possible L/53, as it resembles the L/53 EK2spange so much (and L/53 hadn't seemed to have produced an EK1spange up to that point)

two examples have turned up marked L/54...
and it was an unknown style of L/54 marking
but I think we now have had an original L/54 EK1 turn up, with the same unusual L/54 stamp

here's a few other examples, from members and me
              regards
              jon

If anyone can remember the marked EK1, I never saved the pics
I'd like to see it again
                    regards

I don't have a lot of material on makers marks, but a couple of the things I have say L/54 is unknown and one says it is Schauerte & H., Lüdenscheid. What is correct? Also is this spange still thought to likely be an unmarked L/53 or an unmarked L/54? When I get a chance to dig out some of my stuff, if I can ever get the room finished, I will see what the case that came with it says.......although there is always the possibility that the vet just stuck it into an odd case he found, or the cases got mixed up over the years he had it.

                            Thanks,
                            Ron

The list of LDO codes list L/54 as Schauerte & Hohfeld and you can see this list here on the forum http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/iron...ironcross1.htm
