    Thankyou so much,
    What brilliant fakes!
I just saw this pic on the other thread too...
I appreciate the help. Are these your own? And are these the same ones exposed in that magazine you mentioned?

Is it possible this is a repair? The blob not having come from a manufacture but solder from a repair job. You would expect to see the reverse with the repair unless the crack didn't go all the way through. Just a thought.

No, I'm sure it's not a repair, even a period one (as I had once thought)
It doesn't go all the way through, and the edges of the 'blob' has a little aged frosting, as if was done before the polishing etc.
I totally think this is a fake. The 'blob' got me wondering, and since seeing other L/12 fakes, I'm convinced.
            Watch out everyone! Very convincing.

Just thought I drop my two cents worth on this one...

I also have been trying find out for sure whether or not these "uneven wing" spanges are of a genuine type.
I now have five of them, L/4, L/16, 21 and two unmarked ones.
Four of them have seperately attached prongs, the other one having two long attached strips.
The five of them are pretty much identical when looking at the front.

If you look at the example of an EK2 spange on this website in the Iron Cross 2nd Class section you will see yet another example of these "uneven wing" spange.
You can also find pictures of them in many reference books.

As far as research goes, I have looked through thousands of pictures taken prior to the end of WW2 without finding a single picture where I could positively identify one of these spanges.
But I have however, been able to find several examples of them that have existed in peoples collections since as early as 1961.

One point with them is that are of nowhere near the quality or have the detail of the known genuine issue pieces - perhaps the "el cheapo" version for those that didn't want to spend up big on their EK2 spange?

If these are fakes then they have existed for over 40 years and are out there in great numbers.... but so far I can't find proof that they are in fact, genuine.

              Regards,
              Tim
