What then is the opinion then of Re-enactors?
I'm sure that most of them (Example: A re-enactor wearing a EK 1 ) have not earned them by the requirements of the medals they wear.
Of course they didn't earn them, but if you look at it like that it would have been impossible to make a war-movie.
Re-enactors don't hit the pub dressed like that, I presume?
(Unless it is on their "playground".
But hey, everything posted here are opinions, feel free to wear any shirt posted here....

What is the difference when you buy from a dealer or from an add in the newspaper, on-line auction or E-Stand??
With all respect I think you misunderstood what I ment; i was implying that perhaps the treating of awards and decorations as commercial commodities is crass/distasteful when considering what the veterans had to do to win these awards in the first place.
I buy and sell awards from time to time and sometimes it does not sit comfortably with me: especially when I think of the hard times and trauma that went with the original owner winning them...and now here these awards are being bought and sold like trinkets
the only thing stopping someone getting an RK now is their bank balance
but then i think maybe i think too much
but its good to get these thoughts out there in the public arena.
the least we can do is treat all our awards and medals with upmost respect and keep in mind what went with the soldier earning them.
cheers

Hi
I'm very astonished about how many of you agree with my first reply. The point here for me is not collecting or selling military awards or items or reanactment. This buisssiness or love for our hobby is how and that history and the soldiers who 'wrote' them never die. Doesnt matter if it was a holder of the medal of honor, victoria cross, hero of the sovijet union or a knight cross holder.
I can remember that about 30 or 40 years ago the son of Willy Brandt (former chancellor of the BRD) tied a knight cross around his neck in a movie while he was in bathing costume. From all over veterans complain and it was a total public desaster.
To wear a t-shirt with an iron cross, a badge or a unit emblem is one thing. To wear a t-shirt with the highest award from a country is something different because this award is a expression of personal bravery.
I'm sorry that I'm not able to explain it better in english

But like y'all are saying, if someone goes around boasting of a false action that earned them an oh-so-real award. Then there's a problem.
Anyone know of that musician who used to wear that fake knight's cross?

Honestly, I'd put the t-shirt and reenactor's wear of the RK in two entirely different categories. The t-shirt, while it doesn't really offend me greatly, seems to be far more flippant. Very few reenactors that I've met would dare to wear an RK out of respect for the real soldiers. At least in my neck of the woods, a reenactor wearing an EK2 is uncommon, and one wearing anything higher is even less so.
