      Spange

      Ben,

One point I didn't mention is the center of the last nine, it looks like there are no pebbles, which matches mine. Also, the pattern of the center of the first nine appears to be like mine. Take a look and see if you see it in yours, from your picture it looks like mine. Jim

        Hi Ben!
Here's my 1. pattern. The beak/mouth look different, no veins in the 1st 2 rows of feathers & the claws in the center are different. Again this is a 1. pattern vs. 2. pattern which maybe the reason???

I don't think that a 1. Pattern and a 2. Pattern are comparable, as you say Greg.

Ben, I would have to agree with Jon's reply... I think this is one to judge in your hands.

          Trust your instinct.
          Best regards,

I do not like it because I think the details look soft.
Also the head, especially the beak and eyes differ to much, compared to Jims Spange.

I know there are some handfinishing on these, but I do not think tha would explain the differences we see here.

And I am not a big fan of all these different die theories. I can't see why there should be 2 or more dies for (almost) every maker of the Spange now a days.
I am a bit worried about these. A few years ago, IMO you didn't see a new spage every day .

              Just my 2 cents.

The same... I would prefer Jon examples

If you can get another better example, why do you want to have that one?

perhaps because you want to acquire all versions about that clasp... that have some risks you need assume

like Flemming I think the same about the head, "the beak and eyes differ to much"

                  Spange

The one thing that is constant on all the types shown is the area between the beak and right wing. There is very little space but also the open area is in the shape of a diamond.

I believe that there are different dies based on the vein/no vein on the feathers unless they cut this area off after manufacturing. But we will never know the answer to this, so multiple dies could have been used. According to Jon's list there are two varities of Juncker spanges, mine and the one that Jon shows.

                  Cheers

                  Jim

The bottom one of these two, seems to miss the "dot" in the eye, and also seems much "sharper" in definition.
