The EK has L/54, and a Stamped Star at the Bottom. Any ideas.

    Hi there,

    It's L59 (Rettenmaier) not L/54 (S&H).

Rettenmaier used many, many different ancillary marks on their EK1s. No one (that I know) knows for sure their purpose, but theories include inspection/quality marks, base material marks, assembler's marks, or distribution (intended sales market) marks.

I think you will likely find more information on which marks were used in George's upcoming EK1 book.
    Best regards,
    Streptile

Looking for ROUND BUTTON 1939 EK1 Spange cases (LDO or PKZ)

Trevor is right on, nice piece! A great maker of EK's with fine detailed frames and very interesting Quality or personal employee or whatever marks!
Nice case to go along with it!
