    Rough KC of the KVK

    Hi,
We are used to seeing magnificent frosted examples of these crosses by top makers but there were also late war unmarked silver plated types as well.
Here is one of those types. Its heavy and seems to be made of nickle. All of the plating has gone from the front but a lot remains on the back. This can be seen as blue/grey areas. There is also an undercoat showing through in places.
Whether this is a wartime piece or a very old repro from the late 40,s or 50,s I dont know.Maybe someone here has an original to compare it with.
    Cheers

Don't think this is a wartime piece! Far from the good and
crispy known makermarked crosses from the war.

Doesn't look too good from here. Seems quite rough in detail.

From the thickness, look sort of like a Souval.

Hi, why would it have 800 on the eyelet if its a nickel example?

                              Hi,
Thanks for those pics RonR.What metal do you think the first cross is made of?

                              Jerry,
I suspect a case of fraud when stamping 800 on a plated item.

I would like to add I was hoping someone had a plated example to show and that the plating was now peeling off as mine is,thats really what I wanted to compare.
Whenever it was made, it started out a whole lot better than it is now.Burnished siver plate.Nice frosting, not that much different from a real siver example. Not unlike the kriegsmetal and zinc badges that were given a gold or silver wash that didnt last long.
                              Cheers
