    RK, but not quite ...

    Good day, all.

I bought an EK2 on e-stand this week, that has been modified to be a RK. I asked the seller if he knew whether it was pre-1945 and though he could not say, he did tell me it came directly from a family.

Now, my obvious question is if the experts here think this might indeed be an modified EK2 that was worn as a RK. Perhaps this is impossible to tell, it's just that it would make the cross a really great piece of living history!

    All opinions are welcome!

I doubt anyone can say with any degree of certainty. It is an EK2 and it has had a modification to be worn as an RK. When this was done who knows? It would make the cross a great piece of history if you we knew where?, when?, who?, why? Unfortunately we don't so it will forever remain an EK2 by the maker '24' with a modification.

Is the ribbon period RK ribbon?

Thanks, Adrian. I expected as much, but you never know. Thanks for identifying the EK as a '24' by the way!

The ribbon is an EK2 ribbon as far as I can tell, not a real RK one.

If it was bought from the family then you should be able to find out the name and maybe cross reference that to known RK winners.

It was what,80€ I think,- so you should be happy that its an EK2 that someone has humped up at one point in time.If it was period or not you will never know. I expect the sellar would have asked a lot more if he could have tied it to the recipient himself easily enough Ribbon is EK2

Seems like I've seen this particular cross before. The jump ring has been bent then a RK style suspension loop added. I like it a lot and would forget about trying to establish authenticity and just enjoy it for what it is. I've seen a few EK2s that have been turned into watch fobs later considered RK conversions. No put down of item or seller! A nice item!

I think Detlev had 1 or 2 for sale recently....but no idea of any provenance with them. Pretty darn cool item though

It's a nice addition to any collection, and a good conversation piece. The EK2 ribbon looks hopeful by the way it seems like it once had some ties attached to the ends.

Here is another being discussed: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/FORU...d.php?t=421512
Without becoming embroiled in the discussion on the grouping, I like this EK conversion too - but only as a modified EK2.

If I was to spend any serious money on an EK2/RK conversion it would need to be accompanied by a photo of the recipient unquestionably wearing the exact same cross I am buying.

Wow, I truly appreciate the amount of input I have received here! Reminds me why I love Wehrmacht Awards so much.

I most certainly will! To establish provenance here is probably impossible and therefore matters little, for it is a very nice piece as it is.

The seller couldn't tell me more, so there we have it.

It will look great in my EK2 collection and once in a while I'll just daydream a little and imagine it proudly adorning a young Knight's Cross winner's uniform.

Don't think I'm not! Whatever the consensus, this was quite the bargain!
