    KVK 1st w/o Swords

Is this a good one or bad one? It seems too 'shiny' to me. The pin is stamped with an L15 in a box, on the underside of the pin, you can see the reverse of this stamping, meaning you can see the L15 in reverse as if looking at it in a mirror. This raises my suspision.

It looks to me to have been struck from the same die as this one -- which I consider a Floch fake. What do you think?

          Hi George,

The hinge and catch are a little different than the one you posted. I was surfing around the web today and came across this one: http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H20150.html
which has the same pin and catch as the one I have as well as the same maker mark. Doesn't mean they are real, but I am now leaning toward it actually being authenitc and not fake. I am still not 100% certain though. Thoughts anyone??

I know that the hinges and catches are different, but what I look for in comparison is die characteristics. In these two KVKs they look very similar. Compare the stippling on the 9 o'clock arm, near the end, for example.

Could we have better photos of Arbeitdienst's cross? Its hard to tell with the current photos but the KVKs look like they came from different dies.

If I could download Arbeitdienst's pic (for some reason I can't) I would make a comparison. But even with the pictures available you can see that both of these crosses have center veins in the oakleaves -- an extremely rare design variation in examples of this award. And again, look at the pattern of the stippling on the 9 o'clock arms in the center near the ends. It's identical.

The stippling is not the same. It may be similar in areas but it is not the same over the whole piece. These two KVK's were made from completely different dies. Ed

Well, then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

The stippling is not the same in all areas . For this to be the same die the stippling would be 100% identical in all areas not just parts of the 9 o:clock arm. I am able to see many areas that are not the same. While I have no doubt about the Floch fake L15 KVK's the piece posted by arbeitdienst is not the same and is most likely the original that the fake was based on. Floch didn't pull the design for the fake out of thin air it was based on an original.

                            Just my opinion, Ed

I will have to support George here that the stippling is indeed the same, according to my observations overall, not just in places.
But I also believe like Ed that Todd´s cross is the original the Floch cross George shows was made after.
