Great EK2! Here is a picture of my '55'-the position of the swaz does seem a bit different though. This was also my first EK2 purchase

Thanks for the compliments guys, it really means a lot.

To answer the question of how I have gone so long without an original 1939 EKII, as usual, money was the main problem. Like many of the younger generation of collectors, I suffer the limitations of having a small amount of income for which to spend on militaria.

To settle the maker debate, here is a pic which I should have posted yesterday, but neglected to because I was having trouble getting a clear photo.

I don't want to make anyone look foolish, but it is most definately a "65". The numbers are are stamped into the metal, as opposed to having raised numbers like in the "55" stamp. It is easy to see why someone could have interpreted this as a "55" rather than a "65". I even thought it was a "55" when I bought it.

        Thanks again for looking.

Nice. Welcome to the club. I was geeked over my first one as well. She still holds a special place in my collection.

Nice Cross! 4th, 7th or 10th core type, I can't be sure? Robert P is very good at identifing these! and I used the K&Q core chart He sent me in looking at this thinking it is one of these three?
Perhaps RP will come along and add His thoughts? Unfortunatly I do not have photos of the reverse of the 12 type of cores K&Q used, which may have made it easy to pinpoint due to the coreshift in your 1813 date.

I would be interested in finding this out. Hopefully Robert P comes along and adds his two cents.

Not all start with Ek IIs. I for one started with the cheapest of them all - war merit medal . Without a ribbon.

                    Mauser,

Your cross is an original '65' with one of K&Q's many core variations. I like the fat date and swasi on this core. Here are a few to look over, all original '65's....

Thanks for the input Robert. With this particular core variation, is it possible to figure out a approximate date of production for my Cross?

Very true. My first original medal was a Hindenburg Cross because it was the cheapest medal I could find; it was $10.

                          Mauser,

No, I cannot help with this timeline. Perhaps someone else can share their opinions.
