    Orth...

Orth is another maker who, at times, used Souval frames. Or maybe Souval used Orth cores. To me it's still unclear however there is evidence that several makers utilized each others parts at times. Probably no different than today when one seller gets a big order and they can't fill it so they work in conjunction with another maker and simply slap their brand on it. It just happens that Souval was one who did this and then went on to produce EK post war. The Souval-Orth connection is also explained in the pinned article.

      Hi,

Doesn't the catch have a 'blockish' look to it? Similiar to ones made by Floch?

        Thick catch...

        Hello Fariz,

The catch is thick but I don't attribute that to Floch. It's simply the post war version. Below is a photo of a 1957 by Assmann. You will see a similar catch.

          Hi,

I'm confused about the 'slim' swastika and 'thin' swastikas.

Does this mean that all EK1s with souval chracteristics such as flaw on the top left and dipping '3s' but have 'slim' swastikas are Orth made but with a souval frame? Im assuming here that souval made EK1s have only 'fat' swastikas?

What about fakes... Have any umarked EK1s with souval frame turned out to be a fake? And do any non souval frames have the flaw on the top left corner?

Sorry for the many questions. I've read the souval article but i'm still unclear about a few points.

          Thank you,
          Fariz

            As I understand it...

            Hello Fariz,

To me Slim and Thin are the same.

An Orth cored EKI will not have a Dipping 3 as that is a Souval core characteristic. The die flaw is a Souval frame characteristic.

A true Souval core has a fat swas and Dipping 3.

As Souval continued to produce EK post war then it could be said that they are fakes although they used original dies for the core and frames but post war hardware as I understand it.

I am not aware of any maker other than Souval that had a similar die flaw. Other makers had die flaws but not of that specific type in that specific spot.

May I suggest that you await the comments of Peter Wiking, who authored the Souval article, or any of the other experts here before accepting all that I have said. I believe I'm correct but do not consider myself an authority of any sort.

            Regards,
            Stu
