    Magnetic Schinkel EKII

Thanks to Mathias I now have another Schinkel EKII, this time a magnetic version. I notice for one thing the corners on the swasi are much sharper than on my non-magnetic Schinkel, and the dates crisper in detail. All in all an excellent example. Thanks, Mathias!

Nice catch Robert, do you have any Schinkel size ribbon to go with it?

Yes, Adrian, I've collected a few of the narrower full-length pieces over the years. Thank you.

Can anyone add as to what these early Schinkel frames were made of? I'm presuming they were tombak with a nickel silver electroplating, and polished, with frosted beading. Or maybe polished neusilber? Any solid ideas?

                        Hi Robert,

detail may be crisper because of a " new " die.
On the other hand, pherhaps they were switching to a softer metal as soon as the die started to show some wear.
(to extend the life of the die)

I will compare my magnetic and non-magnetic schinkel tomorrow.

                        Best regards,
                        Ben

Robert, As usual a cross of great Quality! Can you tell us what the Schinkel ribbon width is? I am interested as I have a few ribbons of different width I have picked up at shows?
                          Thanks Much!

                            Kevin,

                            Roughly 25 centimeters width.
