I firmly believe, the EK2 lost its prestige towards the end of the war, looking at figures awarded from 1944 onwards until 45. In 39 the iron cross was something to aspire too, and earn and it was treated with respect, but as more and more were being awarded I believe it lost its prestige, as Hitler Youth were being awarded this award too, it must have made real german soldiers feel, 'well what was all that for then'.
Im just seeing who agrees with me.
In the german army happy times, conquering countries in a matter of weeks or months, you might come across a company of soldiers and only a few would have this award, but then maybe in 44,45, everyone had it. Ofcourse there is the factor of, as germany was crumbling away, people were performing higher acts of bravery more frequently, then that would explain the sudden rise in award figures.
Im rubbish at explaining how I view things so I do apologise, id just like to see who else feels this way. All criticisms welcome, id like to see what other people believe
