The core in not magnetic and at a first glance seems to be copper. But that is not so. Under the microscope one can see that the core is unpainted under the rims and is most likely zinc.
There are also paint residue (very few) on the inner rim sides which could be an indication of a repaint.Attached Files

There are no obvious signs of opening and re-soldering the frame (such as heat spots) BUT there are considerable gaps between the two halves in some areas. Also I could not observe obvious refinishing after a possible re-soldering BUT there are some spots that could indicate a kind of rework.Attached Files

The frame seems to be cleaned but that could have happened at any point in time between 1957 and now. The loop is marked 800 65.
Clearly, there are areas where the frame shows gaps but there are also areas where there is no gap visible at all. I personally would think that one would see something curious in the ring area (inside and outside) but at least I can't see anything out of the usual.
The only thing that is certain beyond any doubt is that the frames are K&Q.

Dietrich,
The flaw you show is similar and in the same location as on one of my '57 KC's I mentioned to you a while back. I am certain that it is 800 marked. At the moment it is locked away so I can't say if there are other markings on it but I don't recall any.
I will bring it to the SOS for your perusal.

Interesting pics....to me:
- There appears to be verdigris on the oak leaf stem, which indicates something other that zinc (cupal?). Also, what accounts for the copper color on the worn spots?
- Again, from the pics, the frames actually appear unfinished vice cleaned. This is similar to SL EK1s I have handled assembled post war from original parts. SL die characteristics, but no finish.
- Construction appears quite shoddy. I've not seen an "original" KQ w/ gapped frames like that. Again, very similar to the SL EKs I mentioned above.
not drawing any conclusions, just reporting what I am seeing in your pics...
