That pin is very Godet looking. I'd like to hear what others say about it. The '3' in your date looks exactly as my SB. Just maybe we can pinpoint this maker after all, the Unknown SB.

Robert, for me this is the second pinback, but I hadn't linked it to the screwback before.
I posted the first pinback about a year ago (?) and I think Stef said that it was an early K&Q if I recall well.

no this Variant is not made by K&Q. Actually it was made by F.Wiedmann.
In my point of view they are neither rare nor very early. Niemann has sold some of them recently and offered them as a relative to the round 3 EKs what is also nonsense to me.
As Robert already pointed out these crosses simply have the classic Wiedmann setup (especially pin) while the hook can either appear flat (as on IAB's) or round.
To sum up i think that the crosses posted by Ben at the beginnig of this thread are much rarer (i already got seven Wiedmanns but not ONE L/14
).

I don't think they are related to round 3 ek's either.
The setup is a bit unusual, but that is all.
I do think however these crosses are early.
Very odd that you see the screwback more often for sale then the pinback.
The L/14 is really nice, I bought it from a good friend who just aquired a cased L/14.
He did regret it afterwards, since my L/14 is magnetic, and his L/14 isn't.....

maybe my post was not clear. I do not want to say that they are not early, but i don't think they are very early (as e.g. Schinkel Eks). I believe they are around 1941/1942 (i have a screwback version in a L/51 mmd case, so they maybe were made at least until the initiation of the LDO).

You're right on, also Ben. This cross came with a grouping from a vet. His EKI doc shows a date of Dec. 31, 1941, a good new years eve award.

The grouping consisted of (4) docs plus the EKI and photo of Oberfeldwebel Schmitt. I've added the rest as a display...
Weidmann's name is not on the EKI list, but poerhaps one of the 'unknown maker' pertains to him...?
