    Gordon Williamson

    Hello Gordon

Today I went into my local bookshop to try and purchase/order a copy of your new book on the 1939 Iron Cross. They didn’t have any record of it. Or of any books you have written on this subject. They gave me a printout of about 20 books that you have written, but nothing on EK’s.
For example some of the books on the list are:

    German Afrikakorps
    German Army Elite Unit
    German Battleships
German E-boats of World War II
    German Heavy Cruisers
    German Light Cruisers
    German Military Police
    German Pocket Battleships
    German Seamen 1939-45
    Germany Security and Police
    The Herman Goring Division
    Kriegsmarine U-Boats
    Panzer Crewmen
    U-Boat Bases and Bunkers
    U-Boats of the Kaiser
    WaffenSS Handbook

There is a few more on the list as well, are these all indeed books that you have written?
Could you please provide some details of the Iron Cross books you have written, which ones if any are out of print etc…

I have read though many years ago a copy of your book The Iron Cross of 1813 – 1957 (which was very good by the way.)

Thanks in advance for the info, hopefully other people will also find this interesting.

Dez, I'm sure Gordon will see this, but his new book is available from the publisher at:

His earlier book is often available on Ebay, and in fact one of our members was selling a great set of EK refernce books on the estand which included this book (great deal BTW if it hasn't sold...the Bowen book costs $150 in the US by itself)

some of the info in his old book differs considerably from the new.

Merdock, Gordon or anyone for that matter could you elaborate on this please? From what you wrote I understand you to mean that new information and knowledge has come together to form a more precise piece of work. But please, I would like to know.

I have no reason to doubt Gordon’s integrity or knowledge base. My copy of the Iron Cross of 1939 should be here late next week.

Dez, you'll have to get Merdock to explain as I don't know what he is referring to.
Obviously a 500 page technical reference book dealing solely with the 1939 issues will have considerably more info than a 175 page book dealing with the whole range from 1813 to 1957, covering the historical aspects.
Considering the first was written twenty years after the second, it would be astonishing if no information in the first was revised !

                        Marcus,

there is an error on P204. The wrong photo has been put in for the wreath detail. This is not a Klein . Klein doesn't have the serrated lines above and below the 1941 date. The Klein and Juncker photos were mixed up.

Gordon has written a wonderful book, I bought it when it first came out...I was not aware of the other books except for the first Iron Crosss reference.

Does anybody know if Gordan Williamson is also a militaria dealer or more of a collector and author?

                              John:
Gordon is an author and collector. What he sells, which is very little, is merely a small sideline to make room or trade items. See his website.
He wrote a series of articles 25 years ago that got me collecting German items in a magazine called Antique Arms and Collecting. He has written a lot more than the bibliography above denotes and his personal reference files must be one of the great untapped treasure troves of our hobby. The interviews with surviving SS men alone will serve as a major academic primary source record in the years to come.
I believe he earns his living as Director of the Scottish Land Records Office and as a T.A. Red Hat (M.P. Reservist).
I personally trust him absolutely where he has an opinion upon an item or as a historic reference. Same with Rick Lundstrom.
