Hello
I have never seen, or heard of, any EKs which when marked carrying anything other than the manufacturers number, e.g. '4' for Steinhauer und Luck or their LDO mark, e.g. 'L/16', again for S&L.
It is entirely possible that you have a genuine EK spuriously marked at some later date to try and 'enhance' it's value. Can you post some clear, close in, face on photos of it please. If you can't post photos PM me and I'll send my e-mail address and post them for you.

Hello
I am posting these photos here for flinteruk. This is his EK that he would like opinions on.
Steve, if you become an association member, that is pay the annual subscription - which at todays $ to £ rate is nothing - you will then be able to view and post pictures, and access certain forum and areas that are restricted to association members only. If you are serious about this hobby it is a really good investment.

Hello
I'm sorry, but I don't like this one. The front appears to be like a Rudolph Souval EK, down to the 'birds feet' on each outer corner, the slightly curved inner rim edges where the frame meets the swastika and the '3' numeral being lower than the other numbers in the '1939' date. Classic pointers to an original Souval. However, from what I can see of the rear, this looks to me like a cast copy. I certainly don't like the pin, hinge or catch, and have never seen a set up like this on any original EKs - Souval or otherwise. The marking on the back is, in my opinion, a fantasy marking - certainly as far as EKs go anyway. From what I can see in the photos it looks like it may be one piece as well.
Can you see if it is one piece, and is the core magnetic?
As I say, just my opinion, but I don't like this EK and feel it is a repro / fake.
Regards

Hi Flinteruk. If you're thinking about buying an EK you should first get photos of it and check any markings it has against examples in the section of this website that explains all you need to know about EKs. If someone sends you a photo of an EK1 marked 58 or something you can look at a MM 58 EK1 here and check out the similarities or differences. You can also browse the FAKES section in the WA Forums. I thought I knew it all, well, most of it, and didn't scope out the examples here and ended up with a big fat fake very recently. Ausgang
