I never bought my single copy as an investment. I don't have a copy of this book at all and as an Iron Cross collector I felt it would be a good thing to have. There aren't alot of books out there on the subject. The signed copy wasn't a whole lot more so I said the hell with it and threw the extra bucks down. Traditionally, signed copies of books have always been more desiable, the author made personal contact with me, which I thought was nice, so why not? I actually planning on reading my copy, carrying where I have to etc. These types of books still bring good money even when they are used and usually can't be found at the local five and dime.

I bought my original IT1, then IT2 for the same reason Steve did. Both books have been the best all-around history of the Iron Cross family on the market, then and today - my main collecting interest. My wife saw the great demand for the IT1 right before the IT2 came out - @$300.00 on eBay. So, she ordered herself a copy of the IT2 for an investment piece. I did the same when I bought my second. But I'll bet my second copy of the IT2 goes to her step sister's husband again. I'm a giver at heart.

Cool how they charged $12.00 for shipping and then sent the #$%^-ing thing Media Mail for a whopping $4.95 or something like that - only took an extra week and a half to get here.
Don't get me wrong... the guy puts out a helluva book (I even did a good review of it for the latest MAX Gazette), but making a profit on shipping is just bush league IMO

Hi Skip,
Just wondering, in Steve P's defense, if that $12 somehow included the shipping box, time to pack it up, time to drive to the Post Office, Gas for the car, waiting in line to Mail, etc. (Time, labor, and expenses.) I know Steve and I don't see him ripping anyone off. He does all the work himself. If he had to pay an employee an hour's labor to prep, mail, and ship a book, to do the menial labor, I'm sure it would cost more than the $7.05 difference.
Think about it this way... how much time and materials does he use in the process of 'Shipping' 400 books. That's a lot of time, if you think in terms of 40 hour work weeks. I'd say that $7.05 less gas and materials, is a pretty low hourly rate. I almost feel sorry for the guy!
Regards,
Mark

Good point, I suppose, but I wrote a book in 1988, printed 2,000 copies packed, mailed and did everything else myself and never thought about charging more for shipping that the actual cost. I also do a lot of mail order with my woodworking/display cases/headgear stands and I think you would find than most of my customers are paying less than actual postage costs - especially since the rate increase. If someone orders from me at a show and pays in advance, I pick up the shipping no matter how much it is.
Oh, well, different strokes...

HI Skip,
Hmmmm, Since you're giving those headstands away, maybe I should order 5 or 6 and display my ERELs!
Have a good weekend!
