That's the actual material that came in that particular shadow box dispaly case. It looks ok. Appreciate the comments guys. The Parade Mount cross is so nice, I couldn't believe it when I took it out of the envelope.
Thanks. I haven't picked up a 39 EK in awhile but after I had these out I realized how nice they are. I've been concentrating on 1914's but I want some more of these too.
Is that the ribbon ring or the ring attached to the cross itself? And what do you mean narrower? As in not as thick? I'll check when I get home. Are these harder to come by, because I saw one today in the Wanted section?

Hi Steve - I do mean the ring attached to the cross and not the ribbon ring. On my 44 this ring looks to be half as thick as those on my other crosses. I even double checked mine to see if it was a replacement (thankfully not), as it was so noticeably different.
I don't know how rare the crosses are, but many people seem to have received other maker marks or unmarked crosses in Joseph Bengel titled packets.
I have a wide frame cross that I cant read the maker mark on that came in a JB packet, the cross is probably a 24. I'm awaiting another 44 to arrive so I should be then able to compare two maker marked examples.
They are certainly nicely defined crosses, when compared to say a 55 !!
Here's the L59 with the device removed showing the maker mark and the unknown x mark, one of a few unknown extra marks this maker (Alouis Rettenmaier) have one thier EK1's.
