    65 or 66 EKII

    Hi,

I just received an EKII that was supposed to be a '60' marked cross. Well, it's not a '60', and now I'm confused on whether it's a '65' or a '66'. The stamps look a lot alike, but the crosses are different...slightly. In examining the crosses I see differences in many areas. I'll point them out as I go along. BTW, I couldn't find a '66' marked EKII in the archives. I did find a '60' under the heading 'pics list', but it is very much different.

    Here's the known '65' first...

'65' numbers on top...all (7) of my '65's have the same style numbers...look at the heavier, flatter style on the bottom...

now look at where the bevel of the swasi meets the flat core. The '65' (on top) has sharp edges or corners, while the bottom swasi has a more rounded edge or corner. See the difference. I don't have one '65' that looks like the bottom swasi.

Now look at the stamps. The known '65' is on the top, the other ? on the bottom. Do you think it's a '66'?

              Hello,

the depicted cross is definitely a 65er cross.

                Hi Robert,
Going by the stamps alone, I would read the bottom one as a '65'. I say this because the '6' has quite a broad leading edge to it whereas the second numeral doesn't and I can't see that it ever could have done looking at the unstamped metal between the digits.

Perhaps K&Q had a 'variant' or a second core die?

                    Hello,

in deed, K&Q has used two different cores.
They differ in the shape of date and swastika.

                      Thank you very much Franki,

Yes, the frames on both crosses under a 10X loop look exactly the same. The core just threw me off. Thanks everyone for clarification.
