Hi Steve. Sorry to hear that its turned out to be a bad one. Although that is the last thing anyone wants to hear, its in some way good to find out the truth asap. There is nothing worse than having a piece thinking its good when its not. But don't let it get you down. You will find a good one soon. Its a tough way to learn but, the good in this hobby far out weighs the bad. Hang in there mate.

On spanges of the EK2 and EK1 how do you tell the main difference between a wartime item and a fake?

              Hi again!

Thanks for helping whit the pic. Ben.

As i can see on the original the backside has the print of the eagels feet, and is not one the fakes. on the front the swastica and the window whit the year has a wery detailed background if you look at the eagle you can see a wery detailed brest and especally the feet where you can see the nails on the feet, altrough a sharp edget details. i hope its a little help.

Steve, I know it sucks when you find out that there's a bad one in the collection.

I had 2 of these, one marked L/4 , the other unmarked.
I paid next to nothing for them because both seller's were not sure the clasps were authentic.

I sold one as a repro (attached to a good ek) a while back on the E-Stand.

I bet a lot of collectors have been, or are being, fooled by this repro, it looks very convincing.

                        Good luck!

                        Best regards,
                        Ben

Thanks. I'm new to this and never reallyknew. It's not a cheap reproduction either. It actually looks decent with authentic wear. Where do these come from and when were they done?

                            Other sources

Hello Steve...I just happened to have been looking over Paul Hogle's site...

                            http://www.lakesidetrader.com/index.html

and noticed he has some spangen for sale. Probably a little more than an Estand one might be but readily available and authentic if you are looking for another source.

                            Regards,
                            Stu

Thanks. I'm not sure what direction I'll take right now. I want to hear from the seller on this piece first, although replacing it would be nice.
