Signs on the "24" iron cross

    Hello fellow collectors,

I'm a bit interested in the marks on the small ring on the 'Hanauer Plakettenhersteller' Iron cross.

Does the "WR" inscribtion have to be on the small ring (the one the frame of the cross) for it to be original?

Are there any crosses inscribed ONLY with the 24 mark on the large ring?

    Sincerly, Ninja.

Hi, yes some are only marked with the number. I know there is a baltic cross marking and an acorn marking found on the small ring of some.

    Best, Sal

        Thanks Rasmus!
There are more markings than just the 2 I mentioned , but others will have to tell us because those are the only ones I have!

There is a theory (a sound one but as far as I know still only a theory) that the various manufacturers (or plants that assembled these) marked the small ring perhaps with the company name (owners name) i.e acorn for Herr Eichorn, cross for Herr Kreuz.

I have mentioned that the paint at 24 marked EK2******180;s
is very often in bad condition.

                Hi Sal,

Could this apply to 1914 EKII's too?

                See piccy...

                Cross is by Alfred Rosner.

                Regards ...

                            Hello Rick

Very nice crosses you have there... Thanks for the pics, they came in handy for comparison.

I do belive mine's a "24" as well. (yours just more well kept. )

Here's another marking variation, "24" and "o" on the large ring.
