Can everyone just see all these minty little guys crying their eyes out looking at their brother crosses being posted yet unable to snuggle up to each other? After all they kept each other warm in some footlocker in Russia for 60 plus years

Lovely crosses, I don't care as much for mint examples as those that show some wear, but these are really nice.
Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china...
              All the best,
              Chris

I never get tired of looking at the "horde" EK1's. The condition on these is just incredible! Like stepping back in time

I never knew that there were EK1 spanges in the 'Russian Hoard'.

A while back I picked up a cased EK1 spange from the estand which had been hanging around for a while and was on page 3 being pushed back and basically ignored by members. I made an offer for it and added it to my collection.

Looking at those posted with the cased EK1's I have a nagging suspicion that mine is the same as those especially in the area of the case where the case catch is the same as my EK1 case catch.

I've never really researched it and would be interested to know if I have a pair - can anyone post some close up of a 'Russian Hoard' EK1 spange and the case it comes in?

Condition of my spange is not as good as my EK1 but the case is excellent.

I will try to post photos of mine on the weekend when I can get some natural light.

                  Regards ...

                    Dear Hagwalther,

There were rumours that other awards (DKiG etc) were found in the Russian horde but no such awards have surfaced as of this date. The mint EK spanges you are seeing in this thread are most likely B. H. Mayer ones, the same manufacturer as the EK1 horde pieces. Most of the "stone" mint spanges that I have had the opportunity to see/handle were Mayer patterns. These spanges come in the case with the rectangular push button release and some are even found in their oringinal slip cartons.

To see such an example look on Brian Maederer's site. I believe he has 2 now.

A few years ago/few MAXes ago these cased Mayer spanges were going for the "crazy" price of $1000. Now I have yet to see one under $1500.

I was able to work out a trade with Jason Burmeister for one of the spanges with the case and outer carton at the MAX a couple of weeks ago. (It was the last cased & boxed set I needed to round out my EK's & KVK's)

Jason had two with the cartons, both very nice - the asking prices were in the $1700 range

Also remember the S-O-S when Helmut Weitze showed up with his cut from the Russian Hoard. Sure wish I had bought more than one at the time, as they were $250.00 each

                      Best,

Hells Teeth - what a price!!!

I paid $US500 for mine and thought that I had paid too much for it then as no one wanted it - maybe it's a common piece.

Thanks Gary; I will post some photos of mine on the weekend under a new thread. The case mine comes in certainly looks related to my 'Russian Hoard' EK1 case and the same as those on this thread.

                        Many Thanks.

                              Agreed!

I will be getting my mint cased spange from Jason here shortly.

I need some real education here. Firstly how did a russian have a hoard of german awards.
Secondly how did like Helmut Weitze have a cut. Were they found by someone you guys all know. Is there a story about these i could read.
I am absolutely sick jealous , i really need to know the details now to satisfy my curiosity..
                                Thanks in advance ... Stomper
