    Richard,
Great grouping! I especially like the envelope too, it's one of the small details that too often gets lost over the years. After all, what's so special about an envelope?! Good job.

As far as it being specifically for the award, I would imagine they had and used whatever fit best, then what was available. Is the envelope large enough to fit the doc unfolded (flat), or did they have to fold it?

    Congrats again,
    Hank

The envelope measures about 11-5/8" x 15" and is larger than the document. It has not ever been folded.

A lot of people have looked at this thread but there are very few comments. I guess that the badge and document speak for itself or perhaps I was too lengthy or wordy. I would very much like to get an opinion on the envelope and value of the group.

With regard to the envelope, I would think if I were to make a special award to someone, I would give them the award and document at the same time. To have Keitels name on it would be prestigious and to not present it at time of award just does not make sense. That is one reason I think perhaps the document was sent home from the field and the document says Feldpost. I can easily be wrong on this point. I am hoping that the envelope gives some clue in this regard. I realize this is speculative, anyone got ay ideas?

On value, I have never seen a DKiG document for sale but never really looked that hard. I probably could not afford it any way. It is obviously rarer than the award itself and value is tied to the recipient. Any thoughts on this? I have no frame of reference and this group is not from a dealer. It will be special to me. I am lucky on this one.

Your thoughts on these points appreciated.

Although I've already commented, I will add the value is probably around 2500 euro, give or take. If there were more - his EK docs and other medals, it'd be higher. But this is nothing to sneeze at.

ONce again, I would venture to say that the administrative elements of any large military organization would have envelopes of various sizes. Many documents were sent home from the front, I have a number of groupings that include envelopes. For something like this, they may have went out of their way to find an appropriate envelope, but I'm not sure that it would have been "special made".

Any number of the larger dealers - Niemann, Weitze, Nordheideversand, hell even our own Münster - have DKiG docs for sale. Heer are the most 'affordable", just because it was the largest organization, probably followed by Luftwaffe, KM, then SS. They cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars/euro.[/quote]

Dude, this group is awesome. Treasure it, keep it, enjoy it. Make it the last thing to ever part with if you sell your collection. And once again, congratulations. MOst of us can only dream of named groupings like this.

I appreciate all the comments made and it looks like this one has passed the test. Thanks for looking. I finally found my copy of the Major being listed in a referenec book and will close with that. Thanks, Richard
