Even this late in the war, with the Soviets in Berlin and Americans all over the west, they were still dong paperwork...just amazing.

Now that's an impressive piece of paper

I agree with you - it never ceases to amaze me how up to the very end of hostilities, awards were being handed out and promotions were taking place while the entire Reich was crumbling all around them.

As a fan of late-war paper/docs I have to say that this is one very nice piece of history you have there!

          Tell me about it.

It makes you think about what these guys were going through that late in the game. The desperate attempts they made and the risks they took- even when they knew that all hope of winning the war was lost. The will to survive makes you do some pretty amazing things, and this document is testament to that.

Thanks guys, but this is but one document in a large grouping! One question - what does the "fdl" stand for?
            Thanks,

Emil Barth is not -yet- listed as a KC winner.

                Maybe a newly discovered winner?

                  Marc-

Is this grouping in your possession, or is it for sale? What else is included?

As John already stated fdl is an abbreviation for feindlichen, which in English translates directly to "hostile" but in this context means hostile enemy.

I believe that this is a recommendation letter for the RK...

He ordered relocation of most of the military staff to Goering on the Obersalzberg. General Hans Krebs becomes representative ob the supreme commander of the armed forces (Wehrmacht) in the 'Fuehrerbunker'.
Evenings: Hitler appoints SS-General Wilhelm Mohnke as commander of the fights in the government area (defense zone: fortress = “Zitadelle“).
Evenings: Goebbels announced that he would stay in Berlin together with Hitler. Shortly after that, Magda Goebbels moves into the bunker, together with her six children.

                          Marc-

Sounds like an incredible grouping. I hope you will post some pictures of the documents once they arrive!

                          Congrats.

it is a confirmation that he has been recommended for the Rk ... but I guess, that even if they had decided to give him the award, it would have been too late and his award was probably never actually considered....Cheers, Torsten.

He doesnot show up in the lastest and most comprehensive work about the RK Winners "Die Ritterkreuztraeger 1939-45" by Veit Scherzer. He's not even mentioned in the section of 'dubious post war" awardees (many 'made' by Fellgiebel). It was just too late, I guess.
