    I get to choose

Howdy Y'all, I've been away a while cause of school.
I made my dad a bet. If I get A's all year long (I'm in the GT program too)
If I get A's all year long I get to choose a any cased EKI. He doesn't have a round 3 or a 26 so I've narrowed it down to a WWI EKI a Godet and a L/11 marked WWII.

For all A's you should get both! Now let your Dad make up his mind whether to do it or not!

              Hi Erik,

Was this idea your Dad's or Yours? If it was his idea (all A's for one or the other Cross), then I think you have the opportunity to 'horse trade' for both! Think of it as going to a militaria show and trying to buy a badge. The buyer and seller go back and forth, right. In this case, your Dad is the seller, and you are the buyer. Since you know you will get all A's anyway, what is the motivation?

For straight A's, you deserve both. And I'm sure that your Dad won't agree with my logic. Sorry, Gary (Dad), I'm on Erik's side...

              Regards,
              Mark

Imo as the rest get both, but if you have to take only one. Then i will go for the 1939 EK, imo that is going to get more value than the godet. Wy ? dont know but it´s a feeling i have, and to this day im not wrong.

If you can only have one, take the L/11!

Good work on the excellent grades!

Excelling in your studies is it's own reward. However, should you attain your goal and get to choose, whichever cross you take will provide you with a lifetime of memories of the accomplishment, as well as of your father.

Finest wishes for your continued success.

Thanks amigos for all the input . . . . He has already been pleading his case for BOTH cased medals!

Yeah the kid is awesome. Yes, he is 12 and he already knows terms like Godet, Juncker, rounder, S&L...etc. That is pretty impressive for a kid his age. HOWEVER

I have 6 more years to reward him for his report cards. If he gets a cased EKI at 12! What will the reward be at 14, 15, 16....etc? Honestly I never thought he would go all year in the gifted and talented program making A's. Much to my surprise he is on track to make it.

You guys need to think of Dear Old Dad. When I die he will get it all anyway, but lets take it easy with the rewarding of it all so young. He did meet my challenge and he will get his choice. I may be a little tough, but I don't think so. The kid will value an EKI and he can honestly say he earned his for his collection. Some of you older guys remember when he got a round 3 EKII from me. The kid was clever! I just want him to work hard and value his efforts and his collection that he worked so hard for.

How old were you when you had a cased EKI from both wars?

                              Erik...

Congratulations on your extraordinary perfomance in school !
You should be very proud of your accomplishments, as I know that your Dad is proud of you for your achievements.

And, as much as I know that you would like to own BOTH crosses, you certainly know the old saying:
                              "A deal's a deal".
It sounds like you and your Dad had a fine agreement.
But let's look at it this way...
If you HAD NOT gotten all A's, would he have been allowed to take one of the crosses from your collection?
                              Nope! That wasn't the deal.
And...the other cross that you do not choose will be something that you can perhaps earn in another way, or with more outstanding work next year.

As to how to make up your mind...well, here is a method that I have used:
                              I flip a coin.
But usually, what happens is that after I toss the coin in the air, I realize that I am secretly hoping that it lands a certain way. That tells me what choice I really wanted and then that is the choice that I make, no matter how the coin lands.

Let us know what you choose!

                              And congratulations again!
