Can any of our other RK "specialists" contribute any thoughts on this?

K&Q Ritterkreuz - Opinions

This came from the estate of Fritz Burkhardt. Wartime photos of this guy show him wearing a cross which is most likely a Juncker, or any cross with over-rounded inner corners.
One observation to be made is that all the cased sets of K&Q crosses I have seen ALL have the same distinctive style case associated with K&Q, sometimes maker stamped on the lid lining, sometimes not. These cases are very peculiar to the K&Q RK, and no other maker. If these sets were post war produced, we would expect to see them with post-war cases. (The above 1957 cross is with a post-war case) Or if teamed up with original wartime cases, we would probably expect to see them with a wide variety of case patterns.
I am also of the inclination that the opening up of the former eastern block countries has much to do with emergence of mint awards. Was Oberstein in the Russian Zone in 1945?

this is an interesting observation. How many did you visit and how many where K&Q? This should (maybe) give a rough statistical number. I have to look up my Bowen later today - he also came across some and there should be a statistical precentage (pure and most likely inaccurate) to be established.

Fact is - they were not issued so they must have been stored somewhere.

Here's a copy of page 193 of Bowens book 'The Imperial and German Iron Cross' an excellent reference work.
Interesting to see that out of 40 RK examined, there's only one attributed to K&Q.
