    Russian Horde EK?

After finding out more about these Ek's, I'm dying to get my hands on one. Any info on where to get one, know a contact, or specifics on this type of EK itself would be great.

    Hello-
If you do a search on the forum you will probably find more. What I know is that back in the late 1990's a foot locker was found in Russia that contained several EKs. The most prominent was cased EK1's (without cardboard boxes) that were all maker marked '26'. It was assumed that it had been taken from a depo abandoned by the Germans - but stoires abound. Apparentyl Kai Winkler found the lot and began to sell off the EK1's for $300 each, which was a huge ammount for ones back then, today they go up to $1000 for one. I know of no one who is selling any of them at this time. You will however find some very nice items on the E-Stand if you stick around and look. Just this Christmas a member was selling a mint W&L cased Ek1 for 350 Euros. I had spent too much already to get it myslef though
Welcome to the best place to learn about Whermacht Awards!

Wow thanks for the info....I would die to get my hands on the cased version. You guys have so much info to give, its really great. My two goals for the year are to find a cased horde ek and the gmax repro m24 stick grenade. Do many people sell on these forums?

Scroll down to the bottom of the forum list - there is a section called 'E-Stand' - for EKs and the like go to 'Badges and Awards' then hold on to your pocket book, because you can spend it very quickly....
Also - if you want to spend money - spend the $25 and become an Association Member - it is the best $25 you will ever spend!

How rare are these versions of the EK? Do many of the horde medals go up for sale?

            Ek

I was at the Show of Shows a few years ago when Helmut Weitze sold a whole box of these 26 marked EK1's -- in mint condition. A couple of photos below show the one I used to have in my collection. Now the property of another Forum member.

These do surface from time to time but you have to move fast! They are gorgeous and have gotten expensive. A collector friend of mine bought a few dozen of these when they first came available and I am sure he is glad he did.

            Enjoy the photos,

            Mike

                  Price

I don't think I can disclose the price as this was between me and the buyer.

Feel free to PM me and perhaps I can give you some advice.

I bought one about 2 years ago for $650 which I thought was outrageous at the time. I have only seen one sell since then and it was about the same price if I remember right. I did not think these commanded a $1000 price tag currently but I could be wrong.

                            Best, Sal
