Great! Tim, how wide is the ribbon ? ( I ask because it too looks wider than normal ) or possibly he was of small stature.

I'd say 46mm+ on the ribbon.

Yes!!! 46mm+ and ALL pre 'standard'...what a great example of what led to the 'accepted' level that we expect today!
              Again, thanks Tim

                        Hi Guys,
Thank-you all for your replies. John J I think you might have hit the nail on the head with the longer loop for the wider ribbon! It makes sense that a 24mm loop would fit a lot better than a 19mm loop on a ribbon 46mm plus. The loop I have I purchased individually and it has a superbly crisp "800" stamp near one of the ends, with the ends being perfectly rounded. I believe it to be spot on but the length had me thinking.
Gordon, with an un-marked KC, would there be a chance it would be solid silver or more likely would it be silver-plated hence no marks? I don't have a KC but am just asking out of curiosity.
Also, thanks Roy for the link to the Knights Cross article, I have read it before and forgot to re-read it before posting.
Finally, I just want to say Tim what a fantastic example of a non-standard original Knights Cross!!! It matches Werner Molders KC to a tee. It goes to show that just because it's not a "textbook" example dosen't make it wrong. I dare say many people would never had believed that it was a correct KC, but with the photographic evidence of it being worn there is no doubt.

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated,
                        Brett

                          Thanks Dr 1,

Or perhaps we should we thank the Thiem family?

I see that I've forgotten to post the second "mit hund" photo....
                          here it is.....

Oh yeah,......Check Gordon's new book for a nice section on the 3/4 eye RK.

Speaking of family...I know that my mom and sister would happily chuck my dad's stuff into the dumpster "just to get rid of that junk!" and he was a U.S. Navy pilot.
This "junk" includes flight suits, uniforms, 02 masks, wings, etc.
Imagine if there were swastikas involved!!! And $$!!!!
If someone told my sister she could make $$ off of dad's "stuff"
FORGETTABOUDIT!!! She would buy herself a new HONDA (which will be worth one hundred dollars in 12 years).
Sorry to share the drunken rambling!

                            Hi Tim,

Thanks for sharing the excellent pictures of your cross and it's previous owner! What's the story on your acquisition of this piece? Any idea of who the cross maker is? How unusual is it to find the ring connecting to the cross to be 3/4? What is the cross made out of - it looks brass too?

                            All the best.

                              Hi Dave,

This is supposed to be the earliest and rarest version of the RK.
In Gordon's new book, he mentions that there is speculation about this style possibly being made by Godet, or maybe even Juncker.
The center is non-magnetic, brass or tombak, and the frame is silver, but unmarked.

                              Merry Christmas,
                              Tim

                                Brass RK

This is truely a very very significant piece.
Take very good care of it Tim !... and thanks for posting the pictures.
