    57

I do not believe the Schickle-dies survived the war. Just because there are a few of them out there. My ribbon is orange look made by Loy. My oakleaves are early 57 marked 925 , far more better quality then those made in 70's or 90's. My KC has been actually worn. It came with a group but cannot say for certain if the guy worn it. I have offered up $1200.00 US for it.

    Need more pics?

It looks like the obverse core of Detlev's example was struck from a different die than either Tom's or Kai's.

        Thanks Ed-

Yes more detailed pics of the small details of the beading would be helpful. Overtly, with the macro pictures, it appears as though the beading of a few of the '57 crosses matches the '39. This would be due to either the dies surviving the war and used to strike the '57 examples, or perhaps all schickles are post war. If we can see close-up details of the beading to get an idea if there is progression of flawing I think we would be able to make better conclusions.

The ribbon I have is a red- orange Loy ribbon as well. However, these can be mixed and mated with any cross.

          different cores

But maybe that's not surprising given the fact that (as Mikael pointed out in Post # 57 http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...8&postcount=57 ) Schickle seems to have gotten their EK 1 and EK 2 parts from different suppliers.
On the other hand, who supplied the RK core with such distinct "3s"?

            Ed,

how do you explain the existence of the Schickle 57 pieces?

Because we should see a lot more of these schickles around for sale (if the dies are being used or even still exist) I'm not good on the scanner so these pictures are the best I can get. Hope it helps. By the way mine is magnetic

                          Ed,

so your theory is that the dies did not survive the war and the 57 pieces were made with already pre-45 stamped rims, marked "835"?

I will reserve my opinion until there is absolute proof the the dies survived the war. Unlike Mr. Williamson I'm not an expert on KC. Even he at one time stated that this 57 KC(info from original owner) was rare and that he had one the same. He stated that it was made with original WW2 frames from Schickle, which were 'over-stocked' from wartime manufacturing and that early 57 crosses were partially made with extra parts from WW2. Now he has said that the Schickle-dies have survived the war. He cannot be sure of that. If the dies survived, you can be sure there would be a lot more Schickles around for sale.

Tom,if they are the same dies(my feeling is they are not) that is some serious deterioration of the dies. The flaws on Ed's 57 seem to jump right out at you and seem much more intense than yours and any of the other supposed pre 45's I ahve seen. I still think there is a major difference in quality. As far as what George was saying in his earlier post, I think the cores are the same it is just the way you took the pics. Also I wouldnot doubt that manufacturers borrowed each others parts from time to time...Cheers...Jeff

Ed, in reference to what you are saying, if the dies did survive the war,IMO I think we would have seen many Schickle RK's by now, unless the dies were recently, recently found in which case I would have a hard time believing...Cheers...Jeff
