Tom, although I can't offer anything but a 'gut' feeling...I encourage you to continue on

The RK on Kai's site has frames made of "German silver." Would that necessarily make the cross pre-LdO?

Oakleaves and Swords, Ed! And they look like they were actually worn! Do you know the original owner of this set?

Ed- Do you have detailed close-ups of the beading on this piece with attention to the minor flaws? Thanks

Dave- beyond SEM testing myself, proceeding with this will require many detailed close up shots of the beading on '57 and' 39 crosses. If they are not available, the only comparison we have are the macro views of '57s.

George- presumbaly that piece would be pre March 1941. As Gordon said, schickle apparently was in violation of the mandates of the LDO and had their liscence recinded for retail/commercial pieces. Obviously, they were never awarded a contract to produce award pieces through the PK. The LDO regulated only commercial/retail sales of awards and had nothing to do with official award pieces.

                      Jeff-

I saw the update. That is an unmarked piece with a non-magnetic core. Of further interest it will be interesting to see who picks up that luftwaffe salver! $30K is a little steep for me.
