      Hi Ivan,

I send the items away, I'm not 101% fully conversant with the process, but will try to expalin it futher when I get back the Hansen-Hausen results. I'll have to you another day via pm what little I do know

I personally think it is acceptable for spelling and punctuation mistakes, on such things as paper packets and cardboard boxes and outer cartons. I too have inspected the likes of the 'n' CCC box and was happy with it.

The Detlev box and mine shall meet up .when they do the new owner and I will have to compare and deliberate the two in hand.

Ivan do you recall why exactly Weitze didn't like the box ?

        Hey Y'all,

Ivan you wrote, that you've seen a cardbox for the III. grade. Could you post a pic of this box ? I've never seen another cardbox than the one's for the bronze grade. To the discussion I'd like to say, that I believe, that the one with the so called mispelling 'Nahkampfspangen' plural are the right one's. If you take a look in the book from Forman (published ~ 1989) and the new book from Detlev you see exactly the plural Type cardbox. I know that this is not an effidence for sure, but anyway.

Up to this year I've only seen the plural type. A couple of days befor the show in Stuttgart I was offered a card box for the ccc and bought it at the show. I has a curios feeling about it and compared it to my stored pics at home. Then I saw the difference (single version) in the spelling and gave it back. Maybe a mistake, but I don't think so.

For everybody who has visited the show in Stuttgart the following. There was a dealer with a whole bunch of cardboxes for all kind of airforce badges. They seem to be the same kind as the one for the ccc I gave back meanwhile.

        looking forward for any comments

        greetings Walle

I still can´t believe that this box is real - for me it´s an implausible mistake.

Not the same as wrong date or a missed letter.

I´m with Skip - that would be a typical mistake from a foreign faker who doesn´t master the language.

I´m anxious to hear what Marcus' test results.

          Best wishes

            The box....

The box Marcus has is ex-my collection. There was nothing about it that would have me believe it to have been anything other than authentic. It was interesting though when I discussed it with many of the "old hands" "dealer Gods" who stated emphaticly that the only correct boxes were the ones with the mis-spelled title! Now here's a thought that so far has not been expressed.... having examined both types of boxes, I think both are real. But, having stated this, I believe the reason you will be lucky to see 5 of the (correctly) spelled boxes in your lifetime; and dozens of the incorrectly spelled ones is due to the fact that the spelling error was caught! These boxes probably sat on a shelf in a reject room until they were snatched by someone after the war! As opposed to the correctly spelled boxes which were dispatched to the front and promptly tossed upon receipt of the badge.

Speculation, sure. But a reasonable one.

              A very reasonable explanation.

This would also explain why a number of misprints 'got through' the net.

I often think that the Germans reputation for being so exact and thorough is exaggerated.

In the confusion of a war economy:-saving materials, waste, I'm sure that quality control was overlooked in some cases.

Hmmm! I like Stogies theory, could make sense.

Allan, I would be one of the first to agree with you that the Germans were not the perfectionist gods that some people make them out to be. We see enough mistakes, bodgejobs and things that got through the quality guys on the badges forum.

Its just that this is such a glaring mistake that it would jump out at any printer doing these boxes. For example, I would´nt believe a Military Medal box if it had Military Medals written on it either.

Maybe they are real. I´m willing to believe you guys who have held one that they believe them to be real. I´ll wait until I have one in my hand before making a last decision though.

                  Hi,

@ Marcus, was for "n" mistake.

@ Skip, in hands it looks very closed as real ones !

                    Hi Ivan,

                    Was the 'n' a mistake ?

I would at this moment in time tend to believe, yes it was a spelling mistake. The construction of the 'n' box is very good, to good almost to even contemplate as being a fake. (I may be a moderator but as you know I'm no expert )

I do however have a couple of small contentions if honest, but they really aren't worth mentoning in depth (staples and tissue paper) but I think I'd be getting silly to progress down there on such 'nothing ' things concerning this CCC case.

I really need to have now both in hand and perhaps extend the research to 'age' testing.

(Allan we'll have to sort something out mate at a later date and go on the day)

Yes, Marcus, both cardboxes are looking very good, cannot see differences.

@ Walter, unfortunately I have not photos of gold grade, but I am sure to find again it on the table at a show I see from many years now, because inside there is a fake ccc and I will try to do photos of it. I really was near to buy it but after analyzed, I didn't do.

Just to add to this. I saw a box today, it is in the collection of a friend. he got it from the widow of a soldier who was killed in the war. the box had the "N"

                            All the best

                              Stephen,

It looks like the real thing, it wouldn't be hardest to box to fake, but I see no reason to assume it's bad, the gauge of cardboard, score lines etc, all add up to what I'd personally deem original.

It's on that basis and no knowledge of fakes such like.

                              Chris,

Do you have a pic or can you obtain one, thats a first in an actual issue example I've heard of ! Can you recall the colour of the tissue paper if any inside.just out of interest, there seems to be red and the off white/brown tissue in these.
