Paer hinge has been "repaired"
Inlet looks original as well, but what was in this case????
Some kind of non-portable award??

Yes, there was an ek in it, a nice Deumer.
But that wasn't the original content of this case.....

My initial thought as well, a non-portable award.

It's too small for a pocket-watch IMO, and it lacks depth.

Wouldn't expect a pocket-watch in a case from Hauptmuenzamt Wien, but you can never know.....
