Casefor German Cross in Gold - Repro?

This case came with a Zimmerman German Cross in Gold. Both, the seller and myself assumed that it is a repro/post war case, mainly because of the double hinges. Searching the forum, I came across a similar case:

Now I am not completely certain that it is not period. It shows considerable wear, and I am sure it does not belong to the Zimmerman Cross.
I would very much appreciate some expert opinions before I decide to discard the case.

Bottom of the case. Note that some of the metal from the locking device is showing through the worn portion.

I do not believe that the seperate hinge cases are fake, but they are not accepted in the collecting community at large.

Dual hinge cases aren't fake.....not all of them !

Take the base out of he case and view the insides and the base bottom and show us some pic's out of interest.

I don't personally think this case is a fake, I've had a chance to study some DK cases a bit more now.

Some collectors believe these are 1957 attributed useing wartime parts - it's possible too.

Marcus, I am very glad to find out that the case may have a chance at being period. The base is firmly in place. What is the best way of removing it without damaging the case? I don't mind taking a bit of a chance if it helps me to gain some knowledge on a questionable item.

                              Hi Wolfgang,

A blunt flat instument slipped through the recess in the middle of the case and with a bit of pressure try to pry up one side.

Don't attempt it from the edges of the base you'll damage the border and could split the case too.

If it's still not happy to come out, leave it be.

Ivan has been studying these cases of late too, I hope he'll chime in also.

                              Kr
